Eid Al Etihad Long Weekend 2026: A Four Day Plan

It starts with the flags. Some time in late November they appear on balconies, on car windows, on the railings outside the corner grocery, and suddenly the whole street looks dressed for an occasion. Then the group chat lights up. Someone wants mountains. Someone else wants the sea. Your youngest wants to stay up late somewhere with lights and food, and your own vote, if anyone asks, is simply for a few days that do not feel like the week before. By the time the kettle boils, there are four competing plans and nobody has booked anything.
We have been there. This is the plan we would hand a friend: one long weekend, four very different days, all within reach of home.
Below you will find when the break is expected to fall and how to stretch it, a mountain morning in Ras Al Khaimah, a festival day in Abu Dhabi, an evening on the water in old Dubai, a night at Global Village, and the one thing that could spoil the whole weekend if you leave it too late.
When the long weekend falls, and how to stretch it
Eid Al Etihad means the celebration of the union. It marks 2 December 1971, the day the United Arab Emirates was formed, and as Khaleej Times explained, the name is a return to the Arabic title the founders used for the day.
This year the holiday is expected on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December, for both the public and private sectors. Arabian Business reports that Cabinet Resolution No. 27 lists those two dates, and that the Cabinet can move a holiday to the start or end of the working week. No move had been announced when we checked, so treat the dates as expected until the official circular lands.
The fun part is what a few days of annual leave can do. Arabian Business worked out the combinations: take Friday 4 December and you get five days in a row, from 2 to 6 December. Take Monday 30 November and Tuesday 1 December instead and you get six days, from Saturday 28 November to Thursday 3 December. Take all three and the break runs nine days, from 28 November to 6 December.
Practical tip: get your leave approved before you pay for anything. Rest days depend on your contract and your company, and if the holiday dates move, your leave plan moves with them.
Day one: mountain air in Ras Al Khaimah
Start high. Jebel Jais sits in the Hajar Mountains of Ras Al Khaimah, and the drive up is half the reward, a ribbon of road folding back on itself as the city falls away below you.

At the top is the reason many people make the trip at all. The Jebel Jais Flight zipline runs for 2.83 km, launched from 1,680 metres above sea level, and riders reach up to 160 km/h. You fly lying flat in a harness, face down, watching the ravines slide past underneath. The flight itself lasts about three minutes, while the whole visit takes 60 to 75 minutes, according to Visit Jebel Jais.
There are firm rules. Riders must be at least 12 years old, at least 122 cm tall and weigh between 40 and 120 kg. So this is a day for the older children and the adults, and the younger ones will need a plan of their own at the top.
Practical tip: book ahead and bring a warm layer. October to April is peak season on the mountain, and the official site strongly recommends advance reservations. The altitude also keeps Jebel Jais cooler than the cities, so the jacket you nearly left in the car will earn its place.
Day two: a festival in Al Ain or Al Dhafra
For the second day, head west. The Mother of the Nation Festival returns for its tenth edition, organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi. It opens at Al Jahili Park in Al Ain and at Al Mugheirah Bay in Al Dhafra from 28 November to 2 December, then moves to Abu Dhabi Corniche from 9 December to 3 January, as Gulf Today reported.
Notice what that means for your calendar. The Al Ain and Al Dhafra editions close on 2 December, the first day of the holiday itself. If this is on your list, it fits best on the extra days you take before the break, or on the Wednesday at the latest.
If you are making the trip from Dubai, it is worth turning it into a full day out. Our Abu Dhabi culture day guide has ideas for a slower, heritage focused day in the capital too.
Practical tip: daily hours and tickets were not in the announcement. Check the festival website or its social channels the week before you go.
Day three: an evening on Dubai Creek
By day three most families want something gentle. This is where old Dubai earns its keep.

The Dubai Creek Dhow Cruise puts you on a traditional wooden dhow for an evening on the water, sliding past the souks and the older waterfront with the lights coming on along both banks. You can choose a ticket with a buffet dinner or the cruise experience on its own. On the day we checked, prices started from AED 46 per person, which makes it one of the easier evenings to say yes to when you are hosting a crowd.
It also suits mixed groups. Grandparents get a seat and a view, children get a boat, and nobody has to walk far after a long day out.
Practical tip: decide on dinner before you book. If you plan to eat in the old souk area first, the cruise only ticket keeps the evening light.
Day four: a night at Global Village
End with lights and noise. Global Village opened its Season 31 on 14 October, and it makes an easy last night for a mixed group. Pavilions, street food, rides and late evening fireworks make it the easiest crowd pleaser on this list. Our Global Village Season 31 guide covers how to plan the evening itself, and you can book Global Village tickets with us.
Practical tip: parking is free in P1, P3 and P5, and the overflow car parks P7 to P11 open on weekends and public holidays, about 1 km from the Cultural Gate, with a free shuttle bus, according to Gulf News. Expect to use the overflow on a holiday night.
Before you buy tickets, take a look at the Global Village Challenge. Every week, the prize is two Global Village tickets. A new question goes up every day on the challenge page, and you register to take part. Each week closes on Saturday night and the winner is announced on Sunday. Full rules are on the challenge page.
The honest downside: everyone has the same idea
A long weekend is not a secret. Mountain slots, festival car parks and boat departures all fill faster when the whole country is off at the same time.
There is a second crowd to plan around this year. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix takes place on Yas Island from 3 to 6 December, according to the official event FAQ, which overlaps the end of the holiday. If your plans include anything on Yas Island that week, expect it at its busiest and leave extra time for everything.
And remember that the holiday dates are still expected rather than confirmed. Book what you can change, keep receipts handy, and check the official announcement before you lock in anything that cannot move. For a cool season evening that works on any free night, our desert safari season guide is a good fallback.
Plan it: cost, timing and how to book
Cost on the day we checked: Dubai Creek Dhow Cruise from AED 46 per person. Current prices for the Jebel Jais Flight zipline and Global Village tickets are shown on each product page when you book. Every booking with us also earns Cashback Credits on your account.
Timing: the holiday is expected on 2 and 3 December. Put the Mother of the Nation Festival early, since its Al Ain and Al Dhafra editions end on 2 December. Keep the mountain for a morning, the creek for an evening, and Global Village for your last night.
How to book: choose your experience on our website, pick your date and pay online. Book the zipline first, since it is the slot most likely to sell out, then build the rest of the weekend around it.

Back on the balcony
The flags will come down eventually, folded away until next year. What stays is the memory of the weekend you actually took: the cold air at the top of the mountain, the slow lights on the creek, the late walk back to the car with someone asleep on your shoulder. Pick your four days, book the one that matters most first, and let the rest fall into place. If you want a hand putting it together, we are here when you are ready.
